A note from Kelley Hall:

At Patriot Mortgage, our roots in the Sunbury community run deep. Situated right on the Sunbury Square, we are more than just a local mortgage broker—we are neighbors, parents, volunteers, and proud supporters of the Big Walnut schools. For over 22 years, my family has been part of this incredible community. I’ve watched three of my boy’s graduate from Big Walnut, with two more children coming up through the schools. This community has helped shape who they are, and it has given our family so much to be thankful for.

Why We Support Trade Scholarships

Our passion for supporting students entering the trades comes from our own family history. Many of our relatives have built fulfilling and successful careers in electrical work, plumbing, and mechanics. We’ve seen firsthand how valuable, rewarding, and essential these professions are—both to the individuals who pursue them and to the communities they serve.

The skilled trades are the backbone of our towns and neighborhoods. They offer meaningful work, long-term career stability, and the chance for young people to build something truly their own. We want to encourage the next generation to explore these opportunities with confidence.

Our Commitment: Five $1,000 Trade Scholarships

We are honored to provide five $1,000 scholarships to upcoming 2026 graduates pursuing education or certification in the trades. This support is more than financial—it’s our way of cheering on students who are ready to roll up their sleeves, learn a craft, and build a future they can be proud of.

Acceptance of any contribution, gift or grant is at the discretion of the Big Walnut Education Foundation. The Big Walnut Education Foundation will not accept any gift unless it can be used or expended consistently with the purpose and mission of the Big Walnut Education Foundation.

No irrevocable gift, whether outright or life-income in character, will be accepted if under any reasonable set of circumstances the gift would jeopardize the donor’s financial security.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will refrain from providing advice about the tax or other treatment of gifts and will encourage donors to seek guidance from their own professional advisers to assist them in the process of making their donation.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will accept donations of cash or publicly traded securities. Gifts of in-kind services will be accepted at the discretion of the Big Walnut Education Foundation.

Certain other gifts, real property, personal property, in-kind gifts, non-liquid securities, and contributions whose sources are not transparent or whose use is restricted in some manner, must be reviewed prior to acceptance due to the special obligations raised or liabilities they may pose for Big Walnut Education Foundation.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will provide acknowledgments to donors meeting tax requirements for property received by the charity as a gift. However, except for gifts of cash and publicly traded securities, no value shall be ascribed to any receipt or other form of substantiation of a gift received by Big Walnut Education Foundation.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will respect the intent of the donor relating to gifts for restricted purposes and those relating to the desire to remain anonymous. With respect to anonymous gifts, the Big Walnut Education Foundation will restrict information about the donor to only those staff members with a need to know.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will not compensate, whether through commissions, finders' fees, or other means, any third party for directing a gift or a donor to the Big Walnut Education Foundation.
