Memorial Gifts - Big Walnut Education Foundation

Memorial gifts are a way to honor and remember a loved one while advancing the future of Big Walnut students and graduates.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation welcomes memorial gifts of any size.

For gifts greater than $20,000, an endowed memorial fund can be established, whether at the time your loved one passes or at any later time.

Gifts of any size may establish funds or support current funds. Families may want to suggest in a loved one’s obituary that donations be sent to the Foundation using language such as:

“In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to The Big Walnut Education Foundation. Checks should be mailed to The Big Walnut Education Foundation, PO Box 511 Sunbury, Ohio 43074.”

The Foundation will work to provide the donor with a list of names and any contact information shared by those who have contributed to their memorial fund over time.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation is a tax-exempt, charitable organization under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code; therefore, contributions are tax deductible for income, estate, gift and tax savings purposes. Any contribution, large or small, is greatly appreciated. The Big Walnut Education Foundation operates with no administrative staff, so you know 100% of your gift goes toward projects or scholarships.

Acceptance of any contribution, gift or grant is at the discretion of the Big Walnut Education Foundation. The Big Walnut Education Foundation will not accept any gift unless it can be used or expended consistently with the purpose and mission of the Big Walnut Education Foundation.

No irrevocable gift, whether outright or life-income in character, will be accepted if under any reasonable set of circumstances the gift would jeopardize the donor’s financial security.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will refrain from providing advice about the tax or other treatment of gifts and will encourage donors to seek guidance from their own professional advisers to assist them in the process of making their donation.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will accept donations of cash or publicly traded securities. Gifts of in-kind services will be accepted at the discretion of the Big Walnut Education Foundation.

Certain other gifts, real property, personal property, in-kind gifts, non-liquid securities, and contributions whose sources are not transparent or whose use is restricted in some manner, must be reviewed prior to acceptance due to the special obligations raised or liabilities they may pose for Big Walnut Education Foundation.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will provide acknowledgments to donors meeting tax requirements for property received by the charity as a gift. However, except for gifts of cash and publicly traded securities, no value shall be ascribed to any receipt or other form of substantiation of a gift received by Big Walnut Education Foundation.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will respect the intent of the donor relating to gifts for restricted purposes and those relating to the desire to remain anonymous. With respect to anonymous gifts, the Big Walnut Education Foundation will restrict information about the donor to only those staff members with a need to know.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will not compensate, whether through commissions, finders' fees, or other means, any third party for directing a gift or a donor to the Big Walnut Education Foundation.
