Dates and Deadlines - Big Walnut Education Foundation

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS:

January: Applications open. Specific application deadlines are posted.
Late February: Applications close.
You’ll apply to one of three categories for seniors or for a Continuing scholarship if currently enrolled in post-secondary education.
March: A few top Platinum and Golden applicants will be called for interviews.
There are no interviews for students applying for a Continuing scholarship.
If you are invited to an interview, you will receive notification in advance from the Guidance Office. Interviews will take 15-20 minutes and will be scheduled between 7:30am-10:30am on that day.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS:

April: Award notifications will be sent out in mid-April by the BWHS Guidance Office on behalf of the BWEF.
May: Awards Night. Usually the first Monday. Seniors receive their scholarships publicly at this ceremony. “Continuing” winners do not attend.
May: College Information Forms are required from every scholarship winner so that we may distribute funds accordingly.
BWHS GRADUATION DAY: HARD DEADLINE FOR COLLEGE INFORMATION FORMS FOR ALL NON-SHIDECKER AWARD WINNERS. THIS INCLUDES SOME CONTINUING RECIPIENTS.
ALL RECIPIENTS OF ALL SCHOLARSHIPS MUST FOLLOW THE COLLEGE INFORMATION FORM LINK TO SEE THE EXACT DEADLINE FOR THE AWARD YOU RECEIVED AS IT IS DIFFERENT FOR SHIDECKER VS. NON-SHIDECKER WINNERS.
DO NOT MISS YOUR DEADLINE! No funds can be disbursed without your college information form, and you may forfeit your scholarship.

Acceptance of any contribution, gift or grant is at the discretion of the Big Walnut Education Foundation. The Big Walnut Education Foundation will not accept any gift unless it can be used or expended consistently with the purpose and mission of the Big Walnut Education Foundation.

No irrevocable gift, whether outright or life-income in character, will be accepted if under any reasonable set of circumstances the gift would jeopardize the donor’s financial security.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will refrain from providing advice about the tax or other treatment of gifts and will encourage donors to seek guidance from their own professional advisers to assist them in the process of making their donation.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will accept donations of cash or publicly traded securities. Gifts of in-kind services will be accepted at the discretion of the Big Walnut Education Foundation.

Certain other gifts, real property, personal property, in-kind gifts, non-liquid securities, and contributions whose sources are not transparent or whose use is restricted in some manner, must be reviewed prior to acceptance due to the special obligations raised or liabilities they may pose for Big Walnut Education Foundation.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will provide acknowledgments to donors meeting tax requirements for property received by the charity as a gift. However, except for gifts of cash and publicly traded securities, no value shall be ascribed to any receipt or other form of substantiation of a gift received by Big Walnut Education Foundation.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will respect the intent of the donor relating to gifts for restricted purposes and those relating to the desire to remain anonymous. With respect to anonymous gifts, the Big Walnut Education Foundation will restrict information about the donor to only those staff members with a need to know.

The Big Walnut Education Foundation will not compensate, whether through commissions, finders' fees, or other means, any third party for directing a gift or a donor to the Big Walnut Education Foundation.
