Eugena “Genie” Hoke graduated from Big Walnut High School in 1967.

After earning degrees from Bowling Green State University and the University of Maine, she taught middle and elementary school special education for 29 years at Oak Hills Schools near Cincinnati.

She was a member of Sunbury United Methodist Church and a volunteer in the Audubon Society, Cincinnati Arts Society, Zoo and Metropolitan Park System. 


Elizabeth “Bette” Hoke Roberts graduated from Big Walnut High School in 1962.

After graduating from Bowling Green State University she taught elementary school near Cincinnati and later at Chapelfield  and Lincoln elementary schools in Gahanna.

She later gave piano lessons and served as Librarian to Harrison Street Elementary School.

Bette served as organist to Sunbury United Methodist Church for 33 years, was music director several years, and was involved in many church and community organizations.


Roger Roberts, the donor for both of these scholarships, is a retired Big Walnut High School history teacher and guidance counselor. He has also served the Big Walnut Area Historical Society and the Sunbury United Methodist Church. He is a consistent donor and sideline supporter of BWHS students and graduates.
